Feb 16, 1999:

There are many things left in question, and others are often left behind. Such as dreams one begins to concieve about thoughts one had been told not to have, but to hang to hope that they do have. My body is 22 years old, but my mind has to be at least 30 because of what I had faced last week, being carried off in an ambulance on the north end of town near where I lived.

All I could see is the blood coming down my face and the thoughts of not being able to see my young son in the hospital were not avoidable. The journals I kept about one's nightmares cannot be compared to this horror -- a horror of watching oneself laying on the floor, and the voices being indestinct saying, "Nick -- relax, lay down your bleeding, the person is in handcuffs and another is still at large." It is one of those things that drive one to move out of the city, but when one moves to Mason City, there are a few dark secrets of their own -- as such the missing anchorwoman, who works for the local news station.
